Porcelain Veneers Watertown MA

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth.  They are not suitable for every patient; see the pros and cons below.

Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We place veneers routinely, and design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient's smile.

PROS:

Veneers are the most beautiful and durable cosmetic option, unsurpassed by other techniques. When bonded to the teeth, the ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea, or even cigarette stains. They will easily last well over a 10-15 years with reasonable care.

CONS:

1. TO PLACE A VENEER,  THE ENTIRE FRONT SURFACE OF A TOOTH MUST BE IRREVERSIBLY STRIPPED OF ENAMEL TO A DEPTH OF 1MM. Veneers are not just bonded to the front surfaces of teeth;  1mm of enamel must be removed to create room for the veneer, thus matching the original anatomy of the tooth. Veneers are only generally indicated for severly stained teeth which are already abraded or heavily filled. (Cosmetic at-home bleaching is thus a better alternative for most patients; see Teeth Whitening.)
2. High cost. The front eight or ten teeth are generally treated, at $978/veneer. Insurance coverage is available if the veneer is needed to maintain the strength of the tooth.

With over 25 years of experience, we will ensure that your veneers are crafted from the highest quality porcelains and are bonded with the most advanced and proven materials available.

Refrain from using your veneers as pliers or scissors! However, if accidental breakage or damage occurs, it is almost always possible to replace the veneer.
